Building on More Than Two Decades of Quality Care and Community
Building on More Than Two Decades of Quality Care and Community
In the summer of 1982, a group of friends gathered at their usual ice cream parlor following services at Central United Methodist Church in Florence, SC. On this Sunday, they grieved over saying goodbye to a friend who had just moved to a faraway retirement community. Facing the uncertainty of their own retirement years, but wanting to remain in the community they loved and called home, they realized the need for a place where they could maintain their independent lifestyle while gaining security and comfort for the future.
During their conversation, the seeds were sown for the establishment of a Methodist continuing care community. Driven by the dream but tight on money, they struggled to find funding until Reverend Robert C. Faulkner and Mary Alice Ingram stepped forward to help. With the support of their church community, they worked diligently to turn their vision into a reality.
They broke ground on June 7, 1987, and their persistence paid off in December of 1991. The Manor opened its doors as a picturesque continuing care community with 123 total units, including independent living apartments, assisted living suites, and skilled nursing beds. Within two years, the Manor reached full occupancy, and a waiting list grew.
Since the initial construction and throughout The Manor’s history, many changes, additions, and renovations have taken place to enhance and recognize the ever evolving desires and needs of our senior adult population.
We wouldn’t be where we are today without our residents. Our latest expansion was completed in Winter of 2017. The $18 million construction included a new Assisted Living building, a new Memory Care building, complete refurbishment of our Health Care facility, and the addition of a bistro, auditorium, and physician’s clinic.
The Manor has grown into an 87-acre campus with more than 200 living spaces, including 36 Patio Homes, 80 Independent Living Apartments, 64 Assisted Living apartments, 31 Alzheimer’s/Dementia Care apartments, and a 32-bed Health Care Center. Home health care, respite care, and rehabilitation services have also been added, and more amenities are on the way.
What began as a dream among a group of friends has now become the home for many who share their vision and values. The Manor is a community in its traditional sense—a vibrant place where neighbors share their lives and become friends, with the added comfort of exceptional living options, personalized services, and the security of a full continuum of health care.
